Situated in the rolling hills of the Marche region and overlooking the Chienti River valley, Monte San Giusto is a historic village combining cultural charm, Renaissance art, and artisan tradition. Traces of a Roman settlement (age of Nerva, 96-98 AD) can be found, as evidenced by some imperial-era bronze coins found in the surrounding countryside. During the barbarian invasions of the 3rd century AD, the urban center was destroyed. Rebuilt in the late Middle Ages, the document mentioning the "plebem S. Justi" dates back to 947. Already an integral part of the ecclesiastical district of Fermo, under the Lombards it passed to the Duchy of Spoleto, and then, until the 11th century, it was under the control of the Abbey of Farfa. The territory has been a free municipality since 1150; in fact, in 1202, Monte San Giusto is mentioned in the Treaty of Polverigi. Towards the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century, the expansion of the city walls and therefore of the Castle led to the construction of the Palazzo dei Priori, as well as the three gates: the Pieve or Romana, the Sala, and the Moscé.
