DESCRIPTION

The Bishop's Room, also known as the Sala Picta, is one of the most significant rooms in Palazzo Bonafede in Monte San Giusto. It was the private room of Bishop Nicolò Bonafede, decorated in the 16th century with a cycle of celebratory frescoes that justify its name "picta." The frescoes, brought to light during the 1984-85 restoration, depict allegorical scenes and ornamental motifs that testify to the refinement of Renaissance culture in the Marche region and the taste of the prelate, who desired to leave a mark of his greatness in his native home. The room, located on the main floor of the palace, was intended as the bishop's private residence and reception room. Today, it is one of the most precious examples of Renaissance pictorial decoration in the area, along with Lorenzo Lotto's famous masterpiece housed in the nearby Church of Santa Maria in Telusiano.
